Our Programs

The centre provides care and education for children from two to five years of age.

The preschool space accommodates sixteen children, aged 3.5 to 5 years, and two early childhood educators. The preschool program is located on the ground floor of the house where there are two classroom areas; a large play room and a separate art studio. The eat-in kitchen is used for mealtime and for baking activities.

The junior preschool space accommodates twelve children, aged 2 to 3.5 years, and two early childhood educators. The junior preschool program is located on the second floor of the house and consists of a large play room, a diapering area and a third connected space used for sensory exploration.

The program at Jubilee Road Children’s Centre is inspired by the work of the world renowned Reggio Emilia preschools of Northern Italy. Beginning with a view of children as competent and resourceful the educators at Jubilee Road Children’s Centre explore project work through an ‘emergent curriculum’ approach. Both words in this term, emergent curriculum, are important: emergent stresses that curriculum planning needs to be based on the daily life and the interests of the children and adults in the program. It also reminds us that spontaneity is important in early childhood settings. Curriculum conveys the message that teacher planning is important. Thus both spontaneity and planning come together in the Emergent Curriculum approach.

You will find examples of our work on the projects page.
